The PE and sport premium has been allocated to all primary schools in England to improve the provision of PE and sport in schools and you may have heard that the funding has been doubled for the school year 2017/18! At Lakenheath we will be using the money to up-skill teachers and improve their knowledge and teaching of PE, to increase opportunities for physical activities to ensure that all children achieve 30 minutes of physical activity each day, and to give more children the opportunity to participate in sport both in school and extracurricular clubs and competitions.
Up skilling and building teachers confidence has been a primary use of our funding for a few years now. Teachers have attended ‘Coaching for Teachers’ course including, netball, cricket and outdoor adventurous activities. We have also been working closely with the Witchford School Sports Partnership, and through this partnership all teachers have received training in a few different areas of PE such as dance, gymnastics and hockey. In the summer term, Year 5 have the opportunity to work with an experienced cricket coach and Year 3,4 and 5 also have the opportunity to work with this coach during an after school club.
